Tour: Cusco → Moray → Maras → Cusco
This trip begins at 8:30 a.m. along the road that connects Cusco with Urubamba, taking a detour that allows you to reach Moray, a place that is surprising due to its characteristics, it is a complex of perfectly circular terraces, located in a hollow of uncertain origin, which has been used as laboratory for the acclimatization of plants to different altitudinal levels and for obtaining corn and potato seeds, archaeological excavations and scientific observations have also concluded that the place is never flooded despite its sunken conical shape.
Las Salineras de Maras is a place where salt has been exploited or processed with flooding and evaporation drying techniques on thousands of small terraces in the sun since time immemorial, the white and brown color of the pools and the aridity of the territories. surrounding areas forms a spectacular desert landscape that is worth seeing. At present, two Quechua communities have inherited the techniques and use of this place and the product they extract comes from a single spring that passes through a deposit of pure rock salt in the earth’s crust, which makes it highly valued by its characteristics of purity and flavor due to the growing boom in the country’s gastronomy.
