Day 1: Cusco > Mollepata > Challacancha > Soraypampa
After a comfortable road trip to arrive early in Mollepata, we will make a brief stop to go to the bathroom and continue towards the beginning of the route to begin the trek from Salkantay to Machu Picchu. We will travel 9 kilometers to Soraypampa to have lunch. Enjoying free time after eating and having rested, the walk to the Humantay lagoon begins. It is a difficult hike with an altitude of about 4,200 meters, but the views of this glacial lagoon make the effort worth it. That night will be the coldest of the walk, so you will need to wear several layers of clothing.
Day 2: Soraypampa > Salkantay Pass > Chaullay
We will wake up early for the hardest day of the Salkantay walk. After breakfast, we will walk to the Salkantay pass at 4650 meters high in about 3 hours, arriving at Huayracmachay to eat and rest. We will walk another 3 hours through warmer climates to Chaullay, at about 2900 meters high, where the camp is set up.
Day 3: Chaullay > The beach > Hot waters
The walk from Chaullay to La Playa begins at 06:00 a.m. We will walk through warmer climates for about 6 hours, enjoying the green vegetation. We will make a stop at La Playa to eat and rest before using local transportation to go to Hidroeléctrica from where we will walk along the trails for about 3 hours before arriving in Aguas Calientes. There we will replenish our energy in a hotel before the excursion to Machu Picchu the next day.
Day 4: Aguas Calientes > Machu Picchu > Cusco
We will walk to Machu Picchu or choose to take the bus. The guided tour lasts about 2 hours and after that you will have free time to explore on your own until it is time to return to Aguas Calientes to take the train. From Aguas Calientes, we will take the train to Ollantaytambo and return to the hotel in Cusco.
The ascent to the sanctuary can be done in two ways: Ascent on foot along the Inca trail, for an approximate time of 1:30 hours. Those who wish to climb the Inca trail must depart at 4:30 a.m. to arrive at the Inca city early and take advantage of the view at sunrise. Ascent by road tourist bus for an approximate time of 30 minutes.
