Mountain of colors: Palcoyo

Palcoyo is a set of three rainbow mountains, less demanding than the colorful mountain “vinicunva” with a one-hour walk at an altitude of 4,900 meters above sea level, it is located in the district of Checacupe, province of Canchis, Cusco Region.

An excursion to the Palcoyo mountain, you can enjoy an Andean landscape, learn a little more about the Quechua culture. You will also be able to see the camelids and birds found in the area. The hike to Palcoyo Mountain is moderate and a unique experience.

Tour: Cusco – Combapata – Palcoyo Mountain – Cusco

The tour begins at 4:00 am with pickup from your hotel, the trip will take approximately 3 hours by bus, there will be a stop in the town of Cusipata for breakfast. Then we resume the trip to the community of Pitumarca and finally begin the walk of approximately one hour, where you can appreciate the fascinating landscape in the different colors of the strata of the earth that make up the three mountains. Also, during the tour you will be able to see rock peaks that make up a “forest of stones” and in the rainy season the “red river”, a stream that acquires a red color due to the landslide of the mountain.

After appreciating the multicolored mountain range, we returned along the same outward route with a stop for lunch. We will be in Cusco at 6:00 pm.
